Dr Georgakis is a Surgical Oncologist/HPB Surgeon specializing in treatment and management of malignant and benign tumors of the gastrointestinal tract including liver, pancreas, esophagus, stomach, small bowel, appendix and colon, and peritoneal mesothelioma with standard open surgery as well as minimally-invasive (laparoscopic and robotic) surgical techniques when possible. He is focusing in minimally invasive/Robotic HPB techniques and regional perfusion therapies for treating late-stage and advanced cancers, including CRS-HIPEC, PIPAC and robotic HAI pumps.
Dr Georgakis received his MD and PhD from the University of Athens, Greece, and completed his General Surgery residency at the University of Connecticut. He completed a Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a cancer research fellowship at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center. He joined the faculty of SUNY Stony Brook Cancer Center 2017 and he is an Associate Professor of Surgery.
His laboratory research interests include peritoneal carcinomatosis animal modeling and new drug discovery for regional cancer therapies, including HIPEC, and their translation to clinical trials.
