Assistant Professor
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Texas, United States
I am the Principal Investigator of the Shen lab at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Our lab studies the molecular aberrations of colon and appendix cancer with the goal of translating this knowledge of the cancer cell into better outcomes for our cancer patients. To this end we use a mix of high-throughput functional genomic experiments (wet lab), computational methods (dry lab), as well as analysis of aggregated patient outcome data (Real World Evidence). Additionally I am a board certified Hematologist & Oncologist specializing in the treatment of colon and appendix cancer. Active areas of research include:
(1) Use of systems biology techniques, in particular genetic interaction networks, to investigate cancer biology;
(2) translation of advances in cancer biology to bring about improved outcomes in clinical oncology;
(3) development of novel predictive and prognostic biomarkers;
(4) development of small molecules for use as targeted chemotherapeutics
(5) implementation of machine learning methods to assist the above wherever appropriate
